NBC News: The highest number of women and children on record were killed or wounded by the conflict in Afghanistan during the first six months of the year, according to a U.N. report released Wednesday. The number of women who died or were injured jumped 23 percent in the six months to June, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) study showed. The bomber detonated explosives at a checkpoint near Camp Chapman, formerly used by the CIA, in eastern Khost province on Sunday. The Telegraph: The lawyer who represented Farkhunda’s family in court has spoken of her outrage over the decision to overturn the death sentences of four men convicted of killing her. The 27-year old was beaten to death in March this year in a vicious mob killing in Kabul.
