On July 8, 2018, a woman named Umriaa from the Chah Aab district of Takhar province, was beaten up by the local lord of the area, Mohammadullah. Mohammadullah had led one of Bashir Qanet’s (a Gulbuddini commander) gangs in the past. The painful photo of Umriaa with a bloodied mouth was circulated on the social media.

Basira, Umriaa’s daughter, is married to a man in another village. A carpet went missing from her husband’s home and her in-laws went to Mohammadullah and claimed that she had taken the carpet to her mother’s home. The Gulbuddini lord heard the complaint and immediately attacked Umriaa’s home. Without a word, he started beating the defenseless woman with a shovel, leaving her with a bloodied mouth.

This is not the first time such a criminal act has occurred in Chah Aab under Bashir Qanet’s domination. On February 1, 2018, 22-year-old Suraya was publicly flogged on the orders of Faiz, another gang leader of Bashir Qanet. The poor people of Chah Aab burn in the fire of Bashir Qanet’s oppression and crimes every day. At one time, Bashir was supported by Abdullah Abdullah, and now with Gulbuddin’s arrival in Kabul, this murderer has gotten even more powerful. Very few reports of his atrocities reach the media.
