Woman killed with axe by husband in northern Afghanistan

The man, named Noor Mohammad, had killed his wife after a verbal argument took place between them

A woman was killed with an axe in northern Sare Pul province, it has been reported.

Authorities of the province say the incident occurred during noon in Chashme Shifa area of the province, the day before.

Zabiullah Amani, the governor’s spokesperson, also confirmed the incident, saying the husband had escaped. He said efforts are being made to arrest and prosecute him.

The man, named Noor Mohammad, had killed his wife after a verbal argument took place between them. Although authorities confirm this, it has not been called the cause of the violent incident officially.

It is reported that the woman has a one and a half year old child.

Despite efforts by women’s rights bodies for the past decade and a half in Afghanistan, violence against women has not declined. Domestic violence is one of the most serious social issues of the society that leads to the murder of tens of women every year.
