Terrorism is increasing worldwide because of the US-led Western interventionism, former Republican congressman Ron Paul said, adding that US warhawks are using events such as the killings in Paris to terrify Americans into agreeing to more occupation, more bombing.
The United States has dragged itself into a vicious circle of interventionism, according to former US Republican congressman Dr. Ron Paul; he points to the fact that US hawks are using the perpetual threat of terror to justify more occupation, more bombing and more surveillance at home in the eyes of their compatriots.
"The interventionists will do anything to prevent Americans from seeing that their foreign policies are perpetuating terrorism and inspiring others to seek to harm us. The neocons know that when it is understood that blowback is real — that people seek to attack us not because we are good and free but because we bomb and occupy their countries — their stranglehold over foreign policy will begin to slip," Dr. Ron Paul writes in his recent article for Institute for Peace and Prosperity.
The America politician draws attention to the recently-released 2015 Global Terrorism Index report, referring to the fact that the number of deaths from terrorist attacks have drastically increased over the last 15 years, coinciding with the era of the US-led war on terror.
Dr. Paul stresses that the world's most deadly organizations — Daesh (IS/ISIL) and Boko Haram — have emerged as a direct result of US interventions in the MENA region.
The politician cites former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Michael Flynn, who admitted when answering the question whether he regrets the US invasion of Iraq: "absolutely….The historic lesson is that it was a strategic failure to go into Iraq." Commenting on the emergence of Daesh, Flynn added: "instead of asking why they attacked us, we asked where they came from."
Much in the same manner Boko Haram has caught a second wind in Africa after Muammar Gaddafi was toppled and brutally murdered in Libya.
"Once Gaddafi was overthrown by the US and its NATO allies, leaving the country in chaos, they [Boko Haram] helped themselves to all the advanced weaponry they could get their hands on," Paul stresses, adding that now Boko Haram has even overtaken Daesh as the world's most deadly terrorist organization.
So far, global terrorist activity increased by 80 per cent in 2014 and reached its highest recorded level, the former Republican congressman points out.
However, the interventionists are at pains to divert the public opinion from that fact that it is their policies that lies at the root of the increased terrorism threat.
Paul notes, that former CIA director James Woolsey even went so far as to claim that because of NSA whistleblower Snowden revelations the terrorists were using sophisticated encryption. Woosley even proposed to hang Edward Snowden for that. But it is untrue, Paul stresses: first of all, the Paris attackers did not use encryption at all; secondly, other terrorist groups had used encryption long before the Snowden revelations.
"Terrorism is increasing worldwide because of US and western interventionism," the US politician emphasizes.
"Does anyone really believe that continuing to do what increases terrorism will lead to a decrease in terrorism?" Dr. Ron Paul asks rhetorically.
