Suicide attack in Paktika leaves at least 9 dead, 51 others wounded

At least 57 people were killed and over 60 others were injured in a similar incident late in the month of November last year

At least nine people were feared dead and nearly 51 others were wounded in a suicide attack in eastern Paktika province of Afghanistan.

The incident took place in a playground in Khairkot district where scores of people had gathered late on Sunday evening, local officials said.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) however said at least nine people were killed and 33 others were wounded in the attack.

At least 57 people were killed and over 60 others were injured in a similar incident late in the month of November last year.

The incident took place in Yahya Khel district after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives among the spectators of a volleyball game.

The Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) blamed the Haqqani terrorist network for being involved in the attack.
