Grenade attack on wedding party leaves 15 hurt

A local elder wishing not to be named said that Taliban might be behind the attack because they wanted to disrupt the music programme during the party

By Qutbuddin Kohi

Unidentified men lobbed hand grenade on a wedding party in the Ankhoy district of northern Faryab province, leaving 15 persons, with some of them critically wounded, the district chief said on Friday.

Sultan Sanjar told Pajhwok Afghan News that the wedding ceremony of the son of Noor Mohammad, director revenue of the district, was attacked with a hand grenade in the Qorghan area.

Seven of the wounded were evacuated to Andkhoy Hospital while the rests critically injured were referred to Jawzjan province for treatment.

A local elder wishing not to be named said that Taliban might be behind the attack because they wanted to disrupt the music programme during the party.

But Col. Habibullah, the district police chief, rejected the elder’s view point and said that militants had no presence in the district.

However, he said that no one had been arrested in connection of the attack.
