A woman was killed by her husband in central Logar province late on Wednesday night, local officials said Thursday.
The main reason behind the murder of the woman is not clear so far, but the provincial human rights officials are saying that the woman is apparently murdered due to domestic violence.
A member of the local civil society organization, Mohammad Musa Mahmoodi, said the woman was identified as Aqela who was murdered late on Wednesday night.
Mahmoodi further added that the husband of the victim has handed over himself to police after killing his wife.
The local security officials have not commented regarding the report so far.
Violence against women in Afghanistan continues to rise despite government efforts to implement the law on elimination of violence and the establishment of a High Commission for the Prevention of Violence against Women.
According to the Afghanistan Independent Commission on Human Rights reported a 25 percent increase in cases involving violence against women in 2013 from 2012.
