A female journalist has been stabbed to death in broad daylight in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, officials said.

Palwasha Tokhi, who worked for the Bayan Radio station in Balkh, came under attack inside her house near the Hazrat Ali (RA) mausoleum in the 3rd police district late on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Col. Abdur Raziq Qadiri told Pajhwok Afghan News the unidentified assailant managed to escape after killing Palwasha with a knife. Police have launched a hunt for the killer.

Bayan Shamal Radio Director Hafiz Majidi confirmed the incident but said Palwasha had worked with the station for six years before leaving her job in 2012 to do her for masters.

He said the attacker pretended to deliver Palwasha an invitation to a wedding party. She was stabbed in her head and chest soon after she opened the house door.

A day before the incident, Palwasha was threatened with death, according to Majidi, who asked security organs to investigate the murder. About a month ago, a Balkh radio reporter was killed in his house.
