A woman was beaten to death by her spouse in western Herat province and another was gunned down by unidentified assailants in northern Faryab province, officials said on Wednesday.
The murder in Herat took place in Safarabad area of Karkh district on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman, Ihsanullah Hayat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the killer had escaped, but police, investigating the incident, had launched a manhunt.
Doctors at the zonal hospital confirmed receiving the body of the slain young woman. Mohammad Shafiq Sherzai, a doctor, said the woman was pregnant.
The murderer had a second wife, according to residents, who blamed the murder on a family dispute.
In Faryab, unidentified gunmen shot dead a woman in Koh-i-Sayad area of Sherin Tagab district. The district chief, Syed Loqman Gahrek, linked the murder to domestic violence.
He said the slain woman had a dispute with her husband and she had filed an appeal at a local court seeking divorce from her spouse.
