An outraged husband axed his wife to death and injured four others in northern Takhar province, officials said Thursday.
Abdul Khalil Aseer, provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Habibullah killed his wife Naz Bibi last evening who had an exchange marriage.
He said the sister of Habibullah was killed by her husband five years ago, which prompted Habibullah to kill his own wife.
Police said Habibullah committed the crime by revenging his sister death at the hands of her husband.
Provincial women affairs department condemned the killing and asked the judicial organs to punish the wrongdoers in a move to end violence against women.
The police spokesman said that Habibullah had been arrested and was being investigated.
Reports show as many as 6,800 cases of violation against women had been reported since March 2013 out of which 127 are involved killing cases.
