Residents took to the streets against the alleged molestation and murder of a child in northwestern Faryab province, officials said on Friday.
While denouncing police negligence in the rape-murder of the 12 years old, the demonstrators called for the early arrest of the perpetrators of what they called an “outrage”.
Around 300 people gathered in front of the governor’s house and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) office late on Thursday against the incident.
The protestors alleged unidentified men raped Zabihullah before suffocating him to death. Following the incident that took place close to a police station, the victim was buried.
Zainullah, the victim’s brother, told Pajhwok Afghan News Zabihullah went missing while taking wheat grains from his house the provincial capital. “His body was dug out of the ground on Thursday.”
Protestor Mujibur Rahman demanded the perpetrators be detained and brought to justice as soon as possible. If their call fell went unheeded, they themselves would look for the killers and punish them in line with Shariah.
Governor Mohammadullah Batash, meanwhile, sympathised with the boy’s family and appointed a team of detectives and judicial officials to investigate the rape-murder case.
