A man was detained for sexually assaulting his daughter in northern Baghlan province, where a woman’s a body was also found by the authorities, an official said on Wednesday.
The incest took place in Khost district where the accused -- Abdul Alim -- was detained late on Tuesday, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
During preliminary investigations, Alim confessed to raping his daughter over the past seven months, Sherzad said. The girl claimed she was seven months pregnant.
The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) head in the northeastern zone, Hayatullah Amiri, denounce the incident as “very worrying and shocking”. He demanded a thoroughgoing investigation.
He said the culprit, if found guilty, should be awarded the capital punishment. The victim should clarify why she had been silent over the past seven months, he added.
Separately, the body of 27-year-old woman was recovered from a house in Bannu district of the province, said the town’s administrative head, Abdul Wali Hamidi. Forensic tests showed the woman had committed suicide.
The victim’s husband is an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier in Badakhshan province, according to Hamidi, who said the motive remained unclear. The woman had married two years ago, but had no child.
