Children among 16 injured

He said 12 civilians were wounded in exchange of fire

A clash between Taliban and foreign forces and a rocket attack left 16 civilians wounded last night in eastern Kunar province, officials said Tuesday.

Taliban attacked a base of combined force in Ghondi village of Narang district, sparking a clash, Said Fazlullah Wahidi, governor of Kunar province, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). He said 12 civilians were wounded in exchange of fire.

Earlier, head of central hospital in Asadabad, capital of Kunar province, Farooq Sahak, told Afghan Islamic Press that 12 people injured including six children, four women and two males were brought to hospital from Narang district. On contacting, ISAF press office in Kabul said, “There was an insurgents attack against an ISAF base in Narang district of Kunar province last night. There was no ISAF airstrike and there are no reports of civilians injured by ISAF fire.” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, however, said three foreign troops were wounded in attack on foreign forces base in Ghondi Village. He alleged that foreign forces’ aircrafts bombed the area after the attack, wounding 10 people.

In another development, several rockets fired by Taliban on headquarters of Wattapur district hit houses, injuring two women and two children, said Governor Wahidi.There was no claim of responsibliltiy for attack on Wattapur district centre.
