Teenage girl raped in Sar-i-Pul

"My daughter got engaged a year back. I don't know what to tell to her in-laws, her fiancé."

By Yaqub Ali Madani

A teenager girl alleged on Sunday she was raped by her neighbour in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul.

She was sexually assaulted two days ago in the Qazi Kinti village on the outskirts of Sar-i-Pul, Shakiba told Pajhwok Afghan News.

"My mother took my sister to Kabul for treatment and my father also went to work. My other sister went to school. My neighbour Mirwais entered my house," she said.

The girl thought he would leave once he knew that her father was not at home, but the man made sexual advances toward her.

"When I rejected his demand for sex, Mirwais threatened me with death, pointing his pistol at me," she said.

The victim's mother said: "I took my sick daughter to Kabul. I was offering Asr prayers when Shakiba told me about the rape over the telephone."

Following her daughter's call, Shafiqa said she returned to Sar-i-Pul and lodged a complaint with police. "My daughter got engaged a year back. I don't know what to tell to her in-laws, her fiancé."

She asked the government to bring the accused to justice.

Pending a medical examination of the girl, they could not say anything, said the director of women affairs department, Nasima Arzo.

The victim would be referred to the forensic department of Balkh or to Kabul for further examinations, Sar-i-Pul Civil Hospital Director Dr. Haroon said.
