Three Women Killed, 11 Injured in a Clash of NATO and Taliban

But Basir, one of the residents of Kanda Gul, told PAN that during the clash, mortar shells fired by NATO forces hit Malang and Aziz-ul-Rahman's homes.

Three women were killed and another eleven civilian injured in a clash between NATO and armed Taliban the other day in Pech Valley of Manogai district in Kunar Province.

Said Fazl Allah Wahidi, Kunar’s governor, told PAN on June 21st that this incident had taken place the other day in Kanda Gul village of Manogai District. He added that armed Taliban had attacked a caravan of the Afghan National Army and NATO forces in the area mentioned, but they had not been harmed.

According to the governor, the Afghan and NATO forces retaliated and a fight took place. Wahidi said that during the clash some of the bullets were fired in a populated area on people’s homes, as a result of which 3 women were killed and 11 others, including 6 children, were injured.

He said, “For now we can’t say in which sides shots the people were killed.”

NATO-led ISAF forces stated that in this clash two civilians were killed and 12 others were injured.

In a statement sent to PAN from the NATO Press Office in Kabul, it is stated that these people had been killed and injured during a clash between them and the opposing forces. It added that the injured had been taken to the hospital by their forces (NATO-led ISAF forces) but has not mentioned anything about their condition.

But Basir, one of the residents of Kanda Gul, told PAN that during the clash, mortar shells fired by NATO forces hit Malang and Aziz-ul-Rahman’s homes and the mentioned casualties had occurred. ISAF forces said that in this clash no harm had come to them and the Afghan forces and have started to investigate the incident.
