Studying in a mosque on university premises, medical faculty student from Kabul Muhammad Mushtaq was stabbed to death just before noon, one of his classmates told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Another classmate of Mushtaq, Abdul Haq from the northern Kunduz province, has been missing, Ahmad Zalal said, adding the incident happened at approximately 11:00am. "The murderers decapitated Mushtaq and his classmate is missing."

"It is impossible that Haq's friend and classmate of Mushtaq might have killed him," he explained. Mushtaq was an ordinary student, who neither had a personal enmity nor links to government officials or politicians.

"Everyone come and can easily do anything on varsity premises due to the insufficient police strength and the absence of a boundary wall," he argued.

"Strange men came to the university this morning and they suspiciously looked at our books and names of faculties; we were preparing for our examinations," another student Ehsanullah said.

The place and books of the victim were seen scattered on the ground soon after media people arrived at the mosque. Security officials also reached the scene but they gave no information regarding the incident.

Kandahar University Chancellor Dr. Hazrat Mir Totakhel said an investigation had been launched into the killing. The outcome will be made known once the probe is completed.

Meanwhile, students demanded an urgent investigation into the incident and stringent punishment for the culprits. They warned of demonstrations if their demand was not met in time
