Seven killed in NATO strike in western province of Afghanistan

More than 500 civilians have been killed during military operations by foreign and Afghan forces against militants so far this year.

Kabul, Seven people, including several children, were killed on Friday in a NATO airstrike in the western Afghan province of Farah on the border of Iran.

According to Afghan security sources, the target of the attack was the home of a key Taliban commander in the area.

There was no immediate comment from the US-led coalition.

More than 500 civilians have been killed during military operations by foreign and Afghan forces against militants so far this year.

The latest attack follows a controversial attack in neighbouring Herat province where the government says more than 90 civilians were killed in a US-led coalition air strike last month.

Farah's deputy governor Mohammad Younus Rasooli confirmed the bombing but did not give details of the number of casualties.
