Noor Muhammad, a former government worker and the husband of the detained teacher told PAN that they were captured while they were returning home from the market on July 23. He said that he did not know if the kidnap was done by Taliban or thieves and if they demand for money, he would not be able to pay since he is very poor. He further elaborated that he has not heard anything from the kidnappers and he has no news of his missing family. Attiqueullah, the Administrator of Education in the province of Farah confirming the kidnap told PAN that the teacher worked in the Meer Man Nazwi High School. Without disclosing the female teacher’s name, he informed PAN of his meeting with the police and the governor of Farah and the latter has instructed the police to investigate their kidnap and find them as soon as possible. According to the Ministry of Education, since March 2007, 187 people which included administrators of school, teachers and students were killed and 187 schools were burnt down.
